Explanation

I will be adding thoughts as they come to me in no apparent order. The actual time line of events is as follows. Papua New Guinea 1965-1975, Australia 1975-1999, China 1999-2005, Indonesia 2005-present. I will probably also include some ramblings from various vacations around the world. I started this blog because I thought it was about time I tried collecting my thoughts in one place.

TWO WEEKS IN IRELAND (2003) #5

DOOLIN                                                                                                                                          Another very early morning as we set off to Doolin. A stop at the cliffs of Moher was a must.  There were quite a few people selling their t-shirts and silver etc. but the best sight was the three girls sitting on the side of the path playing their fiddles. Their long, curly, reddish hair was blowing in the breeze and they could have been an ad for Ireland. Down the road and around a few corners we found ourselves on the main street of Doolin...(the only street). We pulled up next to a herd of cows who I think came down from the hill just to see who the day had brought into town. As luck would have it, our hostel wasn't either of the two we could see, and not the one back the way we had come but the one on the furthest edge of town..... and no one was home.  After banging on doors and ringing bells we thought that the absolute best thing to do would be to backtrack to the pub we passed earlier which I called 'the pub with the unpronouncable name'  The locals were very friendly and seriously informed us that the reason the hostel was deserted was probably..."he's on the piss again". With that reassuring information we settled in for a huge lunch and then booked into the B&B over the road from the pub. It was lovely to relax and snooze after our grueling day. Then we watched some quality Irish TV. (Saved By The Bell, Home and Away and Judge Judy). O’Connor’s pub was our first stop that evening and I kid you not... it took all of 5 minutes before we were approached by the local matchmaker. "Do you like Ireland?" "Would you consider living here?" "What would you think about a wealthy farmer?" J had a busy time fighting off ardent admirers and I chatted to the very nice barman about China.  Then Pat turned up It wasn't long before we were all best of friends and drinking Guinness and whiskey. The band playing was the best music that we had heard anywhere in Ireland so far and it even incorporated a didgeridoo which blended in beautifully.  Then Pat drove us down to the "pub with the unpronouncable name " for a few more drinks before we staggered across the road to our B&B
We woke up to the best ever bacon and eggs for breakfast served up with super delicious homemade brown bread and then… on to Galway.
